Summary

The field of intervention in psychotic disorders has rapidly advanced in the past decade. Clinical practice is striving to incorporate the unfolding research findings and clinical innovations that are occurring on an international scale. Written by world leaders, Best Care in Early Psychosis Intervention presents a comprehensive review of best practices in the management of early psychosis. They discuss their unique efforts at implementing the principles of care and its state-of-the-art application to specific intervention issues. The book presents a synthesis of the latest and most significant research and practices in delivering comprehensive care and lays out a framework for early psychosis intervention (EPI) best care practices. The chapter authors, all of whom are either clinicians or researchers, describe how EPI principles are translated into the development of service programs. They offer commentary in specific areas, such as pharmacology, cognitive therapy, prodromal intervention, family and other psychosocial interventions, the utility of neurocognitive assessment, and maintaining treatment integrity. Illustrating the relevance of basic research and epidemiology to early interventions, the book provides guidance on current optimal practices and provides diverse perspectives on service delivery.
