The CBEST assesses knowledge that you have gained throughout your academic career. Most of the knowledge tested by the CBEST is covered in your college or university teacher preparation programs or through other classes. While the test does not ascertain aspects of teaching such as dedication, rapport with students, and motivation, it does assess basic skills relevant to the teaching profession. About the California Basic Educational Skills Test The CBEST is required by the states of California and Oregon for applicants seeking their first teaching or services credential.
