Organized chronologically, the essays chart the intellectual trajectory of Chaui in a way that offers a philosophical inquiry into Brazil's political, social and cultural history - from the final years of the dictatorship in the 1980s until the present day.

Author Biography

Marilena Chauf is a Professor of Philosophy at the University of Sao Paulo. Her far-reaching work has been formative for a new generation of intellectuals and led to innovative research in relations between culture, politics, and the state across the humanities and social sciences. Maite Conde is a Research Fellow at the Brazil Institute, King's College, University of London.
