Summary

When a child is struggling with learning disabilities or behavioral difficulties it can be overwhelming, and parents often do not know what to do or where to turn for help. In this book, Dr. Schiltz and colleagues provide step-by-step guidelines to help identify when a child is having a real problem at school as well as in the home. This useful guide covers the major types of issues present in children with special needs and will be a welcome resource for parents and teachers alike. The first step for a parent is a proper evaluation and an assessment of a child's strength and weaknesses. The next step is to take advantage of accommodations at school and home that may maximize a child's learning potential. The authors have included specific and useful recommendations for accommodations that may assist a child in reaching their educational potential. In addition, the authors provide direction, sound advice, and an extensive set of resources that are likely to circumvent potential obstacles for a wide variety of children. The book provides an excellent mix of scientific rigor and practical suggestions with a reliance on evidence-based interventions. This book provides specific and practical recommendations for parents of children with a diverse array of issues that frequently lead to anxiety in families.
