Summary

The ideal reference work for any seafarer requiring knowledge of navigation, The Book of Navigation explains everything sailors and boaters need to know to navigate safely and accurately from one port to another. Assuming no prior knowledge, lifelong sailor Tim Bartlett begins with a lesson on reading latitude and longitude before easing the reader into the more complex techniques. Operating on the conviction that ""trad-nav"" (traditional navigation) techniques are essential for backup to or cross-checking of sometimes unreliable electronic equipment, he focuses primarily on navigation techniques that depend on human mapping and calculations-and offers tips for using the latest equipment.

Author Biography

Tim Bartlett began sailing as a child. After teaching in commercial sailing schools, he became a full-time yacht skipper, ran his own engineering company, and became the technical editor of Motor Boat Yachting magazine.
