It's been a year since Felix Taylor travelled back to ancient Rome and saved his world from a devastating plague. Again his knowledge of Latin and his interest in antiquity seem irrelevant now that life in the 23rd century has returned to normal. But has it really? Someone has discovered the time machine and projected back into the past, leaving traces of only two of the three time periods he or she plans to visit. This stranger intends to reverse Felix's success with lupus ridens, or "laughing wolf," thereby dooming future generations to death. To make matters worse, Felix's father is accused of masterminding this conspiracy. With help from his friend Carolyn, Felix must return to the dangerous world of Pompey, Crassus, and Julius Caesar and decipher the remaining time periods the assassin plans to visit in order to foil his plans. If he fails to do so, his world could turn to dust like ancient Rome.
