Meryl Jones fears dying in the 1941 Swansea blitz. When her home is bombed Meryl is evacuated to Carmarthen, where she is lodged with Mrs Dixon, and her son George who bullies Meryl mercilessly until one night Meryl runs away. She is found by Michael who is half German, working on his Welsh mother's farm and falls deeply in love with him - but Michael has fallen for Meryl's beautiful older sister Hari and has made her his lover. Despite their relationship - and the dangers wartime brings with it - Meryl fears that Michael still loves Hari. But with the ending of the war in sight, and the eventual return to civilian life, Meryl knows that the man she loves so much will have to make a fateful choice, between her and her sister
