Author Biography

Magdalena Gmez is a nationally acclaimed writer, performer, keynote speaker, teaching artist, and the co-founder/artistic director of Teatro V!da, Springfield, Massachusetts. She received the American Master Artist award from NEA presenters, Pregones Theater in New York City. Her vast archives will be included in the Thomas J. Dodd Research Center at the University of Connecticut, Storrs. Publications include the Progressive, Ollantay Theater journal, the Massachusetts Review, and Holt McDougal Literature 2012, among many others. Mara Luisa Arroyo received her academic training at Colby (BA), Tufts (MA), and Harvard (ABD). A 2004 Massachusetts Cultural Council grant winner in poetry, Maria Luisa's poetry has appeared in the Women's Review of Books and PALABRA, as well as in her first collection, Gathering Words: Recogiendo Palabras. As a family access and engagement coordinator at the William R. Peck Full-Service Community School (Holyoke, Massachusetts), she enjoys supporting families in their children's learning.
