Summary

The Chain of Love is a literary allusion to describe the adventures of a family on its journey through life. It is a story of love told by the caretaker of an orphanage to a group of orphaned children to keep their faith centered on God. Its message is that God's love is all they need for happiness, fulfillment and guidance. And, God's love can transform any situation that does not seem right. The family's journey depicts many Adversities as a group and individual members of the family in their endeavors of self-becoming. The mythical world in Chain of Love is called Probation and its inhabitants are Probationers. The glue that keeps this family together through its many Adversities is the enfoldment of an invisible Chain of Love connected to each other. This Chain is also attached to the throne of their King which enables them to be in constant communication with Him and uses Biblical references as a backdrop for its telling. There are many brothers and sisters in this family and their character assumes familiar exegetical concepts such as Cheerfulness, Truthfulness, Candor, Pity, Hope, Resistance, Consciousness, Retribution, Mercy, Jealousy, Greed, Penitence, Repentance, Grace, and Joyfulness. It is a commentary of Pilgrim's Progress for young adults. Like Christian's journey in Pilgrim's Progress on his way to the Celestial City, readers will travel the road through life with our family to the City of the King in the Chain of Love. Just as Bunyan's Christian combats with Apollyon, and after many trials, reaches the Delectable Mountain, so does Resistance and our family in the Chain of Love. During his sojourn, Resistance (our central character), becomes a prodigal and sinks to the very lowest levels of human existence. He is tempted into the Fields of Prosperity where he becomes blinded by the many distractions to be found there. He struggles with Retribution before encountering Reason. Following his struggle with Retribution, he becomes acquainted with Penitence who introduces him to Repentance. Penitence transforms him from Resistance into Consciousness where he is embraced by his grandparent named Grace. His transformation helps him to rejoin his family and to seek his other brothers and sisters. Grace reintroduces him to his brother Truth which led to a deep union of love amongst the brothers. Truth enables his brother Jealousy to overcome his past feelings of inadequacies and eventually loses his identity as Jealousy and come to be known as Candor as he and his brother Truth become indistinguishable from each other. They find their sister Greed after many years of separation and convince her to share her treasures with others and rejoin the family on its journey before reaching the City of the King.
