It's no coincidence that The Charlatans have released a hugely successful album named Tellin' Stories -- their own history is one of the most fascinating and engrossing tales in British rock history. The band emerged from Manchester in the early '90's and quickly became one of the biggest bands on the UK rock scene, with one of the most committed and diehard fan bases around. These fans have stuck by the band through thick and thin -- and some extraordinary developments in the band's fortunes, not least the imprisonment for armed robbery of keyboardist Rob Collins, who on his release from jail was killed in a drink-driving accident. The band's tenacity and persistence in the face of adversity have now been rewarded -- they've enjoyed two UK number one albums, and in 1999 they release their long-awaited and much-anticipated major label debut. Their success has also spread outside of their native land and they are much lauded in the US.
