Author Biography

Joel Backaler is head of Asia Pacific Operations for Frontier Strategy Group in Singapore, an award winning business blogger (TheChinaObserver.com) and writer for a variety of business publications. Joel works in the intersection of Eastern and Western business, a Mandarin speaker and strategy consultant, he has experience of providing Chinese executives recommendations how to expand overseas and explaining to Western executives how they can further expand into China's many markets. Joel spent the first half of his career working with Asian companies as a Fulbright scholar in Taiwan, and late in Beijing working directly with the CEO of a Chinese version of Twitter before working as an internal consultant for Chinese state-owned enterprises (SOEs) preparing for overseas stock market listings. At the Frontier Strategy Group he personally partners with regional CEOs of Asia for Fortune 500 US and European companies.
