Summary

The Church Mission Society (CMS) has been one of the most influential Protestant mission agencies ever. Founded in 1799 as the Church Missionary Society, it combined evangelical zeal with a loyalty to the doctrines and disciplines of the Church of England. Through the work of the CMS, vibrant Anglican churches have come into being in such diverse places as New Zealand, India, Nigeria, and East Africa.
