Por eso, cuando comenzaron a descubrir huesos enormes y dientes de tamaño terrorífico, los sabios hicieron todo por acomodar los nuevos datos a sus antiguas concepciones. Los chinos pensaron que eran dragones, los ingleses que eran los monstruos míticos de la Biblia. Poco a poco las evidencias se impusieron: en la Tierra existió una "era de reptiles" a los que se le dio el nombre de "dinosaurios".
