T. S. Eliot was born in St. Louis, Missouri, in 1888. At eighteen he entered Harvard and following graduation went abroad, and later taught in a boys' school briefly before spending eight years in Lloyds Bank in London. In 1925 he entered book publishing, and at the time of his death, on January 4, 1965, he was a director of the English firm Faber and Faber.
