Summary

This book brings together abridged ICC (International Color Consortium) white papers and previously unpublished material providing comprehensive guidelines to implementing effective colour management using the ICC profile format. The book is split into four parts, starting with an introductory section whereby an overview of colour management in applications and the role of ICC profiles in a colour reproduction system is given. The next section is on measurement and characterization, presenting user guidelines on inter-instrument agreement in colour measurement, device characterization methods and measurement issues for inkjet printing. The remaining two parts focus on the ICC profile, firstly examining the construction and benefits of different types of profile, and setting out compliance test considerations, implementation notes and how to evaluate profile quality. The book concludes with a look at issues in applying ICC profiles such as rendering intent, gamut mapping, and viewing conditions, then using ICC profiles to provide a colour reproduction system, process control and profile identification and output condition metadata. A glossary of terms is included as a useful reference.
