Summary

This is the first book to explore the relationship between experimental theatre and performance making in France. Reflecting the recent return to aesthetics and politics in French theory, it focuses on how a variety of theatre and performance practitioners use their art work to contest reality as it is currently configured in France.

Author Biography

Clare Finburgh is Senior Lecturer in Modern Drama at the University of Essex, UK. She has co-edited Genet: Performance and Politics (with Carl Lavery and Maria Shevtsova, Palgrave, 2006), and published many articles on subjects from Jean Genet, to a range of contemporary French and Francophone theatremakers including Valre Novarina, Nolle Renaude and Kateb Yacine. Carl Lavery is Senior Lecturer in Theatre and Performance at Aberystwyth University, UK. His most recent publications are The Politics of Jean Genet's Late Theatre: Spaces of Revolution (2010) and 'Good Luck Everybody', Lone Twin: Journeys, Performances and Conversations (with David Williams, 2011).
