Summary

Thomas Molesworth has inspired a new generation of men and women who, today, are leading the country in western revival by crafting quality furnishings of leather, driftwood, swollen burls, and peeled poles. This book takes a fascinating look at the Arts & Crafts tradition--the way it was then and the way it continues now. Functional, comfortable, and often whimsical, the works shown here are representative of the furniture and accessories that are so popular today. Paperback; 140

Excerpts

Introduction In the northwestr corner of Wyoming, brisk winds whistle over boundless plains of sagebrush and up through ancient citadels of red rock. Below the wind-carved horizon formed by the Absaroka Mountain range, the South Fork of the Shoshone River laps idly in the frosty air as snow spirals across this uncivilized land. In the midst of this unbridled wilderness in the mid-1800s, a lonely cowboy, alias of a jack-of-all-trades, sits by his pot-bellied stove, building a piece of furniture out of logde-pole pine, a bundle of willows, and a stack of driftwood. After a summer and fall of tough, strenuous work with the cattle, winter is the season to stay warm and create a home.
