Summary

In the early 1950s, Matthew Soames, a rural high school teacher, and his wife, Callie, enjoy the end of the summer on their farm outside Renfro, Missouri, where they raised their four energetic daughters: the oldest , Jessica; Leonie, the most responsible; wild Mathy, who dropped out of school to marry a stunt pilot, and little Mary Jo, who left the farm at a young age to work on television in New York. Like every year, three of their daughters come to visit them for a few weeks. The end of their stay brings out memories: the joys, disappointments, loves, and disillusionments that marked the passage of time and that seem to have dominated the lives of the four sisters. However, beyond what happened beats the deep love that has kept them together during all those years.

Author Biography

She then attended university, earned a master’s degree in English Literature, and went on to teach before moving to the East Coast to pursue a career in advertising. In 1962, inspired by the summers at her hometown with her sisters, she published her first and only novel, The Moonflower Vine, which quickly became a best seller. .
