Ludwig Bchner (1824-1899), eigentlich Friedrich Karl Christian Ludwig Bchner, war Arzt, Naturwissenschaftler und Philosoph. Ludwig Bchner studierte in Gieen Medizin, praktizierte als Arzt in Tbingen und verffentlichte zahlreiche naturwissenschaftlich-philosophische Schriften. Er bettigte sich als Popularisator naturwissenschaftlicher Forschungsergebnisse, propagierte die Evolutionstheorie von Charles Darwin in Deutschland und stellte eine mechanistische Vererbungslehre auf. Zugleich versuchte er sich immer wieder an systematischen Darstellungen seiner Theorie einer natrlichen', d.h. mechanistisch-materialistischen Weltordnung, deren philosophischer Gehalt seit dem Erstlingswerk Kraft und Stoff (1854) jedoch unverndert bescheiden blieb. Zu Bchner Werke gehren: Die Stellung des Menschen in der Natur (1868), ber Religise und Wissenschaftliche Weltanschauung (1887), Darwinismus und Sozialismus (1894) und Im Dienste der Wahrheit (1900).
