Summary

This examination of Welsh political history in the mid-20th century reveals how large a role devolution played during this period as well as how the British government responded, and eventually conceded, to devolutionists' demands. Among the topics discussed are the Labour Party's regard for Wales, the various nationalist challenges posed by the party's dominance in the later years, and key developments such as the 1951 appointment of a minister for Welsh affairs.
