Summary

Gottfried Keller (1819-1890) war ein schweizer Dichter und Politiker. Keller begann seine Knstlerlaufbahn als Landschaftsmaler, wandte sich im Vormrz zur politischen Lyrik und beschloss sein Leben als einer der erfolgreichsten deutschsprachigen Schriftsteller des 19. Jahrhunderts. Von 1861 bis 1876 bekleidete er das Amt des Staatsschreibers der Republik Zrich. Seine bekanntesten Werke sind der Roman Der Grne Heinrich (1853-55) und der Novellenzyklus Die Leute von Seldwyla (2 Bnde) (1879-80). Keller gilt als Meister der Novellendichtung und als einer der bedeutendsten Erzhler des brgerlichen Realismus. Weitere Werke Kellers sind u. a.: Sieben Legenden (1872), Zricher Novellen (1877). Das Sinngedicht (1881) und Martin Salander (1886).
