Summary

Differential Evolution covers fundamentals of differential evolution, parametric study on intrinsic control parameters of differential evolution, and applications of differential evolution in electrical engineering. Qing begins by giving an overview of differential evolution, including its history and applications, particularly those in the electrical and electronic engineering fields, followed by a detailed description of all differential evolution strategies. Qing goes on to explore intrinsic control parameters, followed by a parametric study presenting findings and recommendations on the selection of strategies. Three chapters are devoted to summarizing empirical rules for choosing intrinsic control parameters with full consideration of problem features. Lastly, Qing shows how to apply techniques to emerging application areas like electrical engineering, focusing specifically on areas including, antenna array design, filters, circuits, image processing and pattern recognition, electromagnetic inverse scattering, electromagnetic composite materials, frequency selective surfaces, microwave absorbers, and multi-sensor fusion. Contains a systematic and comprehensive overview of differential evolution Features the results of the latest differential evolution research, some never before published Offers case studies and recommends rules of thumb to choose intrinsic control parameters Describes a parametric study conducted over a large test bed Presents methods for ensuring intrinsic control parameters are based on adequate numerical evidence Provides access to companion website with code examples for download

Author Biography

Anyong Qing is a Research Scientist with Temasek Laboratories at the National University of Singapore. He has been involved in various areas of research in electromagnetics and evolutionary computation, producing pioneering work in solving electromagnetic problems using evolutionary algorithms. Qing has authored 4 book chapters, 49 peer reviewed journal papers, and 37 conference presentations, and altogether has been cited by other researchers over 150 times. He was invited to contribute a review on electromagnetic inverse problems for the Wiley Encyclopedia of RF and Microwave Engineering. He is also an invited speaker for EuMW, IST, PIERS, etc. Qing received a Guest Professorship at Southwest Jiaotong University and was elected as a senior member of the IEEE in 2005.
