The speaker crackles to life as the pilot informs the passengers of their predicament. He will be attempting a landing in the desert. "Please, followthe proper procedure shown to you by our stewardess for a crash landing." He ends by saying, "May God help us all!"So this is the way it would end. There has not been much of a will to live for a long time now. His children are grown, busy with lives of their own.His purpose for going on in life, was complete. He is looking forward to being with his late wife.Stony, unafraid of dying, chuckles to himself, "Well, at least it will be quick!"He has gotten old before his time, aged beyond his years by death, he has seen more than his share. The bad dreams, the sleepless nights, will be over,along with the gallons of liquor in which he tries to drown the memories.But, now and then, life does not follow our expectations. Stony will find out for himself that by learning to let go, he can find life, and therefore,love again.
