Summary

If life is Dream within a Dream, Who are we, that we dare to dream all this, and share it willingly, with loving awareness, with each other? What if you met your counterpart-a future you, who could inspire you with visions of future possibilities? Or a past version of yourself, exploring their own lessons in another lifetime? How could you help yourself, or them, get the most from life's shared experiences? Step into the magical reality of Aidan and Effie, who meet in a beautiful garden within a dream. Lost in a floral maze, they agree to work together. They seek help from an old man named Hans and his partner, Una. But all is not as it seems and before they can leave the garden, they must confront themselves and their perception of reality. Share the trepidation of their journey of discovery, as they confront the challenges and lessons of time travel. Stand in awe as they witness the birth of new universes and unravel the mysteries of life. Share their wonder as they re-examine their hopes, fears and dreams for the future, and the multidimensional nature of the symbols used by the soul to express its innate creativity. Aidan and Effie realise they must take their new awareness back to their own reality, where they can focus their creative efforts to bring their dreams to fruition. They make arrangements to meet physically in time and space, where they can continue their experiences in the so-called world of flesh and blood. But which so-called reality will they choose to explore?

Excerpts

Floating on Clouds 'Effie,' he said. 'I don't know what you think, but I find this to be a very strange place. It keeps changing. Did you see how the dance floor just unrolled itself? And this room, did you see how this room rearranged itself when the old man opened the door wider? After we said we wanted to be together. I did see it change, as if by magic, didn't I? It wasn't just my imagination?' 'Aidan, I am feeling very tired,' Effie replied. 'I didn't really feel tired during dinner or while we were dancing, but I'm feeling very weary now. I thought it was just me. I thought I was seeing things because I was so tired, so I'm glad you saw it too, Aidan. This place is very strange; it feels as if the whole building is alive. It is uncanny the way everything changes and reorganises itself, as if to accommodate our needs.' 'I keep wondering who the old man is, Aidan commented. 'He seems very familiar. And for some strange, unexplained reason, he seems to know a lot about both of us. Anyway, I am sure we will find out soon enough.' 'Before I go to sleep Aidan, I think I would like to soak in a warm bath. Could you run the water for me please?' They walked to the door, and pushing it to, they entered the bathroom. What a spectacle greeted them. The room opened out into a cavernous space, leaving them no other option but to look up. The ceiling just wasn't there. In its place was a dazzling spread of stars. Perhaps more dazzling than anything they had ever seen. Hovering just there, almost within reach, right before their eyes, were spiral galaxies and globular clusters. There were nebulae and supernovae. The entire room was lit by the eerie glow of starlight and when they began to experiment by adjusting the light switch near the door, the brightness of the stars and galaxies began to wax and wane. In fact, the stars were so close they could almost reach out and touch them. When they focused their attention on them, whole galaxies would move, readjusting their positions to give them a better view of the overall arrangement. To top off the effect, once they approached the bath with the intent of filling it, jets of mist billowed from the underside of the bath, carpeting the marble floor in cloud. As the bath was set above the floor on a crystal plinth, the billowing clouds created the illusion that they were floating, adrift on a small island in space. A crystal island, floating on clouds, suspended amongst myriads of stars. 'Spectacular,' exclaimed Effie, 'truly spectacular!' 'I don't understand this,' Aidan commented, a puzzled look on his face. 'I know there is at least one other floor above us. How could this room exist like this, floating in its own space, here in the middle of the building? It's just like the book the old man showed me. When I opened it, the stars and galaxies just floated out of the pages and filled the entire space around me. And I don't know how I am going to fill the bath, Effie,' he added. 'There are no taps.' 'The old man said you just have to close your eyes and imagine it,' Effie replied. 'Perhaps we should just close our eyes and imagine the bath filling by itself. Come on, let's try it together?' Aidan stood there in silence for a moment, gently caressing the shimmering crystal bath. He was thinking of his childhood, when he liked to run his fingers through the warm water streaming from the tap. Closing his eyes, he twiddled his fingers, imagining the warmth of the water running through them. Blinking, he realised he was playing with the water. Magically, the bath was filling itself. 'Well done,' Effie complimented. 'You certainly seem to have got the knack of that. Look, here are two lovely bath robes and they have our names embroidered on the pockets. Did you remember to put bubbles in the bath? This is such a luxurious place, Aidan. I wonder what it's called.' 'I think I saw the words, Palais de Eden, etched in the stone friezes over the entry hallway. My French is a little rusty, but I think it means something like, The Palace of Eden. Not exactly the quaint little country villa I was expecting.' 'No kidding! And I suppose you're going to tell me we have been wandering around all afternoon, lost in The Garden of Eden. But after the events of the day, I'm not so sure.' "I don't know, Effie. But I agree with you. The events of the day certainly raise a lot of questions. And so far, I have more questions than answers, but I don't feel any sense of apprehension. On the contrary, I feel perfectly safe and at ease here. The old man and his other guests seem to be such warm, friendly and helpful people.' They helped each other slip out of their clothes and they entered the bath together. The temperature was perfect. They played together, washing and caressing each other, frolicking in the sheer luxury of their surroundings. Then they lay back, relaxing, meditating on the stars above them. They could do nothing but marvel at the majesty of the night sky stretched out above their heads.
