Summary

This volume provides information for obstetricians and fetal-maternal medicine specialists on the clinical evaluation of the pregnant woman inadvertently exposed to medications. Clear advice on the formulation of safe medication regimes for the treatment of pregnant women with specificconditions requiring intervention is also provided. Although the pregnant woman has the full enzyme complement for metabolizing drugs, most systems have lower activity during pregnancy. Hence, the responses of adults, fetuses, embryos, and pregnant women to drugs differ. This is an overall andsignificant updating of the successful first edition published in 1992. The authors have added a key chapter on tobacco use during pregnancy and included a variety of photos and line drawings.
