Summary

Though not extremely well known outside his native Portugal, Eduardo Souto deoura (b. 1952) has designed and built more than 50 projects in his 25-yearareer. He has attracted increasing interest in the internationalrchitecture world of late with a number of private houses completed in theast five years, including one for the distinguished film director Manoel deliveira. Souto de Moura worked with Alvaro Siza in the late 1970s and openedis own practice in Oporto in 1980. His work has been compared formally tohat of Mies Van der Rohe, with its emphasis on minimal, modernist lines, these of glass and wood, and provocative sitings in the natural environment.his book, in the "Architectural Documents" series, presents a largeelection of the works and projects of Souto de Moura and is the onlyonograph on the architect in print in English. Like the other books in thiseries, it features a clean design, excellent color photographs, plans, andrawings, and straightforward project descriptions.
