Summary

ENGLISH DESCRIPTION

An essential treatise on political strategy and ambitions written by the father of modern political science.

Introduction by Manuel Arias Maldonado

Translation and Notes by Mauro Armiño

As long as human beings live together, politics will be necessary. Knowing this from his experience in governing Renaissance Florence, Machiavelli wrote this treatise to discuss how rulers achieve and retain power. With historical examples, he exposes a political philosophy in which the value of actions is defined based on their effectiveness, inaugurating a realism that moves away from the moralistic and utopian currents of his time.

This edition offers a new commented translation by Mauro Armiño, made in light of the best and most recent Italian editions. It opens with a brilliant Introduction by the writer and political scientist Manuel Arias Maldonado, in which he defends the relevance of this text in our days.
