Summary

Calaciura collects the witness of Charles Dickens and his Cuento de Navidad and composes a beautiful novel starring those who live on the margins of society. A newborn is found abandoned in the last seat of tram number 14. It is Christmas Eve and the vehicle plows through the tracks towards the outskirts of a city without a name. How did he get there? What will become of him? Perhaps out of charity, improvisation, or madness, someone has decided to entrust the child to the arms of the world. A spontaneous and ragged manger accompanies him on that first journey of his life: a traveling umbrella seller, a young African prostitute, a black boy without papers, and an immigrant magician who has lost his memory. Calaciura foregrounds the tiny lives of those so-called "nobodies": lives orphaned of everything and free from the vice of wealth, but also possessed of an invincible resolve.
