Summary

This, the first ever book on Endomyocardial Fibrosis (EMF), is based on the proceedings of an International Symposium on the disease. It traces the history of the disease from its discovery in the late 1940s to its gradual, global recognition as a unique entity. Contributors, many of thempioneers in this field, discuss their experiences, offer hypotheses on the aetiology of the disease and present autopsy and biopsy findings. The investigative, diagnostic and surgical treatment aspects of the disease are also detailed. The final part of the book is devoted to experimental studies,in an attempt to establish the obscure aetiology and find effective means of preventing EMF.
