Summary

Millions of Americans suffer from acute and chronic pain. Often they feel helpless, unable to accurately describe and overcome their suffering. Instead of treating their pain effectively, many are subjected to unnecessary surgery or drugs with damaging side effects. Pain is a real problem. But fortunately, it is also one that can be overcome. The Rusk Institute for Rehabilitation Medicine is known as one of the best pain treatment centers in the world. Now, the Director of the Rusk Institute, Mathew H. M. Lee, M.D., has teamed up with his colleague, Mary F. Bezkor, M.D., to write this easy-to-read and authoritative book on pain. Not only do the doctors correct any misinformation about the various causes of pain, they also bring you up-to-date on the latest pain-reduction techniques. They offer many forms of therapy, from traditional treatments to alternative innovations, that will help you to eliminate suffering. They deal with all types of painful conditions, from long-term physical ailments to sudden and temporary injuries. As you learn about the benefits and drawbacks of each therapy, you and your doctor be able to create a pain management program tailored to your specific needs.
