Das Gesamtwerk Ernst Jungers (1895-1998) ist durchwirkt von Bezugen zu skandinavischen Literaturen. Diese zahlreichen intertextuellen Beziehungen werden in dieser Arbeit erstmals systematisch untersucht. Stahlgewitter, Waldgang und Godenholm sind nur einige Beispiele dafur, dass bei Junger vor allem immer wieder Figuren, Motive, Schauplatze und Handlungsschemata der altislandischen Sagas aufgerufen werden. Mit diesen Referenzen gehen konzeptionelle Selbstentwurfe einher, uber die sich Junger zunachst als heroischer Krieger, spater als konservativer Waldganger und schliesslich als Anarch in seine Essayistik und Prosa einschreibt. Uber die Rezeption der Sagas wird somit auch eine Inszenierungsgeschichte lesbar, die in der Jungerphilologie so noch nicht nachvollzogen worden ist und neue Kontexte erschliesst.
