Five years have passed since the cryptic Founders of Mars sent Taurii, a highly-trained secret operative, on a mission back to Earth, which has been kept without electricity for centuries. But the careful plans of her Martian handlers went awry.
Now known as Tory, the Skywoman, she struggles to adjust to life in a small frontier town. As a delegate to the newly-formed Commonwell, she leaps at the opportunity to be an ambassador to distant Sun Town. Accompanied by her family, Tory embarks on an epic river journey deep into the heart of the former American Empire, where she encounters an ancient menace rising among the ruins, and the far-reaching ambition of the Martians is revealed.
