Summary

This edited volume is both comprehensive and timely, bringing togethersome of the foremost researchers exploring the biological and psychologicaldeterminants of shyness and fear. Its purpose is to present state-of-the-artresearch to a wide range of psychologists, neuroscientists, and cliniciansinterested in the development and outcome of these emotions in mental health. The book has three parts: the first deals with the development of fear andshyness in childhood; the second with the endocrine and neural bases of fear;and the third with clinical perspectives on the development of theseinterrelated emotions. In fact, this is the only book that covers thedevelopment and outcomes of extreme shyness and fear, including a look at thebasic neuroscience of fear as well as the clinical outcomes of social phobia. Itis ideal for clinical psychologists, psychiatrists, developmental psychologists, neuroscientists, and neuropsychologists.
