Author Biography

Robert Holman Coombs, Ph.D., C.A.S., Professor of Biobehavioral Sciences at the University of California at Los Angeles School of Medicine, is trained as a sociologist, counseling psychologist, family therapist, certified addiction specialist, and certified group psychotherapist. A Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, he serves on the International Certification Advisory Committee of the American Academy of Healthcare Providers in the Addictive Disorders.
When a member of the California Commission for the Prevention of Drug Abuse, he developed the conceptual framework that guided the Commissions' activities. Dr. Coombs has authored or edited more than 200 publications, including 18 books. He received the Award for Excellence in Education from the University of California at Los Angeles School of Medicine, the Distinguished Faculty Educator Award from the University of California at Los Angeles Neuropsychiatric Institute and Hospital, and was a Nominee for the Faculty Excellence Award from the University of California at Los Angeles Mortar Board Senior Honors Society.
