Summary

Every now and then a once-in-a-lifetime work comes along which will be of interest to people across the entire Criminal Justice System as well as general readers. This is one such book. This innovative work¿by one of the UK¿s leading experts¿charts developments across a fifty year time frame. It begins in 1980 at the start of a growth in the prison population of England and Wales (and elsewhere) and travels across time to 2030, dealing with key events, issues and developments. It will be an invaluable aid to anyone wishing to cut through the mass of fine detail and data in other works in favour of a direct, authoritative and highly knowledgeable explanation. Novel, original, highly readable and thoroughly interesting, this book makes it altogether easier to understand penal affairs.
