As technology continues to evolve, so too does its effect on the balance of power around the world. Drones have become an increasingly potent threat for lives both civilian and military. Gone are the days of remote-piloted aircraft that only made precision strikes against specific targets; now the skies are ruled by automated kamikazes - flying grenades driven by sophisticated programming, designed to swarm over targets in a cloud of fiery destruction.
When one such drone horde attacks Hanoi, Lee Kane and his wife Inu are caught in a sudden fight for their lives. Back home, Lee's adult children Lucas, Kala, Tristan, and Ryqer are beside themselves with worry when news breaks, only to find themselves as targets when a similar attack reaches its way into Salt Lake City. Violence begets violence, and the area soon falls into a state of disarray as looters and rioters take to the streets in a frenzied mix of greed and anger. The family must strive to escape harm's way and reunite with one another, all while navigating a hellscape, unlike anything they'd ever thought they'd experience.
Meanwhile, in the Middle East, Marine and jack-of-all-trades Rosealine Kane joins her squad in an attack of their own. Unaware of the havoc that has descended upon her family and their home, she wrestles with questions of leadership and personal aptitude, all while hunting down a drone factory in hopes of slowing the enemy's production.
From civilians to soldiers, refugees to citizens on home soil, the Kane family is at the epicenter of a whirlwind of events that historians would eventually consider World War 3. But they aren't concerned with examining the unique crossroad of perspectives they've found themselves in. Nor can they afford to ponder the future ramifications of everything that is happening on a grander scale. For the Kane's, only one thing matters: survival.
