Summary

In 1996, photographer Don Denton set out to create a photographic archive of Canadian authors that would draw attention to the writers as individuals and to their work. First Chapter collects a sampling of his project to date. Each photographic profile is mirrored by the author's answer to one or both of the following questions: How do you work? or What advice would you give to yourself as a young writer? Answers are as varied as the authors themselves, creating an unexpected friction and sometimes fusion between the author's image in pictures and words.
