Summary

Fisheries Dependent Regions (FDRs) serve as a crucial barometer for measuring the economic and social impacts of fisheries policy. While some more favoured regions benefit from the modernisation and centralisation of fishing activity, many fishing dependent communities in remoter FDRs are drawn into a downward spiral of poverty provoked by reduced levels of catch and increasing regulation.
