Summary

Facts and fabulousness make for non-boring nonfiction.

Feminism. Patriarchy. Beauty. Bad puns. An author and her unruly brainchild (Francesca, the fabulous feminist flamingo) come together for a graphic novel-picture book crossover collab that will leave you feeling so empowered that you might just flip a dump truck.

Francesca the Fabulous Feminist Flamingo takes us on an extraordinary journey into the history and ideology behind the thing everyone wants and no one understands: BEAUTY.

Learn about blackened teeth in Japan. Force-feeding in the Sahara. Victorian Era tuberculosis chic. Educational and entertaining, this PG-13 graphic novel will take you around the world and across the ages. Francesca is a wide-lens view of the flippant, ever-changing nature of beauty standards and our bad habit of trying to meet them.

Author Biography

Julia Green is an author, illustrator, and singer who enjoys having "too many" interests. She proudly declares herself a brand ambassador of the phrase "specialization is for robots."  Her husband, Craig, is held hostage to her endless curiosity and endures many one-way "conversations," beginning with the phrase, "Wanna know a fun fact?"

Julia has always had one foot in the visual arts and one in the performing arts. She has a BFA in Musical Theatre from Sam Houston State University and has taken scenic painting and animation courses.

After a successful five-year stint as a freelance illustrator, Julia took on her current role as a Project Manager at Scenic Art Studios in Newburgh, NY-premiere Broadway drop shop.
Julia is a passionate feminist, avid reader, and enthusiastic sharer of lesser-known stories. Her debut picture book, "Francesca the Fabulous Feminist Flamingo," amalgamates all her interests- nonboring nonfiction with a theatrical flair.

Julia currently lives and works in the vibrant artistic community of the Hudson Valley, NY. She enjoys a happy life with her hostage husband, lovely stepdaughter, and semi-abusive pet conure, Pebbles.
