Summary

The essays themselves are organized into the three parts of the book. "Friends" features, for the most part, ordinary people who have touched his life, from childhood friends to those who are "as famous as possible under the circumstances of being Canadian". The pleasures of cooking -- and the gaffes -- come up more than once in the essays in Part Two, "Moments". The essays in Part Three, "Countryside", celebrate Gzowski's beloved Canada, from Swallow Point in Nova Scotia, to Rankin Inlet on Hudson's Bay, host of one of Gzowski's Golf Invitationals in the cause of literacy.
