Summary

The friendship between William Wordsworth and Samuel Taylor Coleridge produced dazzling results-most notably Lyrical Ballads, the volume that launched the Romantic movement. Though much has been written about each poet, The Friendship is the first modern biography to consider them together. Award-winning author Adam sisman presents, "with unmatched thoroughness, balance and verve" (The Nation), a wonderfully readable account that brilliantly evokes these two extraordinary personalities and situates them in their time. The result offers insights into the rich but neglected topic of close friendship, exploring the influence each writer had on the other, as well as providing glimpses of the creative process itself.
