Excerpts

KENTUCKY SPEEDWAY (ages 8 and up)
Hwy. 35, Route 1, Box 15, Sparta 41086; 888-652-RACE, (859) 567-3400 or www.kentuckyspeedway.com Race and events dates vary $$$$

Older children might enjoy the NASCAR racing at this 66,000-seat 1.5-mile track which opened in the summer of 2000. There is some free camping, but it's first-come, first-serve and fills up fast. The track includes a restaurant and concessions; many families also come early and tailgate in the parking lot. Keep in mind that races can last up to 4 hours and that many are held at night and end very late. No children under 13 are allowed to enter the pit area.
