Summary

The world has undergone significant change since the end of the Cold War. One such development is that the Asia-Pacific has become increasingly prominent in international affairs. It is imperative for scholars, practitioners, and policy-makers to identify central issues in the region and examine developing strategic, political, and economic trends. This comprehensive study provides a detailed understanding of key issues, actors and future trends in the region. The broad awareness of East Asian international relations is particularly significant given the continued rising status of the region in world affairs and the ongoing redefinition of major-power relations among China, Japan, Russia, and the United states in the post-Cold War era. It discusses specific and crucial issues in political, economic, and strategic dimensions, such as PRC-Taiwan relations, Asian economic integration, and arms control, thereby providing analysis of the future prospects of East Asia in the 21st century.
