The volume explores the pivotal nature of the demise of the communist regimes, in relation both to experiences of gender and to their study in former state socialist societies. Each chapter is based on new and original research by the authors.

Author Biography

REBECCA KAY is Senior Lecturer in Russian Culture, Politics and Society at the University of Glasgow, UK. She is author of Men in Contemporary Russia: the Fallen Heroes of Post-Soviet Change?, Russian Women and their Organizations: Gender, Discrimination and Grassroots Women's Organizations 1991-96 and co-author of No More Heroines? Russian, Women and the Market.
