Author Biography

Barbara Brooks Wallace says, "Some day I hope to write another story inspired by my childhood in China. Although this is far from being that story, it came to me while I was planning it that it might be interesting to have my heroine come from China. That idea turned out to be perfect for my plot as, with China being so far away and without the rapid, easy communications we now have with places all over the world, it would have been difficult for anyone to prove anything about her past. If that could have been done with the almost-instant response we might expect today, I'm afraid Ghosts in the Gallery would have ended early and been a very short book indeed!"

Ms. Wallace has lived in Alexandria, Virginia, for many years, in a household which includes her husband, Jim; their "aggressively affectionate" Burmese cat, Cleo; and forty-year-old Peter, their turtle. Ms. Wallace has written several Victorian mysteries, including Peppermints in the Parlor; two Mystery Writers of America Edgar Allan Poe Award winners, The Twin in the Tavern and Sparrows in the Scullery; and Cousins in the Castle, an Edgar Award nominee.
