Summary

In 1370, Geoffrey Chaucer joins one-eyed spy Owen Archer on a journey to the Welsh cathedral of St. David's. Using the pilgrimage as a cover, the pair plans to inspect the Duke of Lancaster's fortifications against the threat of a French invasion and try to discover the identity of the ringleader in the plot to incite rebellion in Wales. But before the pair arrives in St. David, they find a man beaten and left for dead. Then they find their contact - stabbed to death. When a third body is found, Owen takes action, even as he begins to question his own loyalties...
