Summary

The Global Industrial Complex: Systems of Domination, is a groundbreaking collection of essays by leading scholars from wide scholarly and activist backgrounds who examine the entangled array of contemporary industrial complexes--what the editors refer to as "the power complex" -- that was first analyzed by C. Wright Mills in his 1956 classic work, The Power Elite. In this new volume edited by Steve Best, Richard Kahn, Anthony J. Nocella II, and Peter McLaren, the power complex is conceived as co-constituted, interdependent and imbricated systems of domination that include the media-military industrial complex, the security industrial complex, the criminal justice industrial complex, the non-profit industrial complex, the higher education industrial complex, the agricultural industrial complex, the animal industrial complex, the U.S. medical industrial complex, the sports industrial complex and the transportation industrial complex. Contributors include Noam Chomsky, Vandana Shiva, David Nibert, Andrea Smith, Ward Churchill, Toby Miller, Cary Nelson, Asif Ismail, Earl Smith, Angela Hattery, Michael Dawson, Mechthild Nagel and Carl Boggs. The collection includes an introduction by Steve Best and an afterword by Peter McLaren.
