Summary

This work was originally released under the title "Skybluepink." The new title reflects a documentary of the same name being released spring 2011. Mother Teresa called him "Child of Angels." His own mother called him "Spawn of the Devil." From swamp child to street kid, from high dollar escort to celebrated humanitarian, Michael Sterling takes us on a journey through his extraordinary life story with "warts and all" honesty, genuine grace, and a delightfully wicked sense of of humor.Having survived being a throwaway at 14 and a brutal attack that left him hospitalized for months, he shows a rare empathy for the forgotten, the discarded, and the broken that fiercely avoids any victimhood. Though he tested HIV+ the first week the test was available, he was one of the first caregivers of persons with AIDS in San Francisco. He went on to found groups throughout the United States, then Europe and the Near East, where he managed to also find ways to give refugees, particularly children and orphans, a chance to become whatever they dreamed.Through his example, and the examples of those he introduces us to with such affection and detail that we might recognize them on the street, he shows us that nomatter how horrific the circumstance, nomatter how deep the suffering, that within us all is the potential not only to survive, but triumph.Deeply moving and often uproariously funny, Glowing in the Dark is indeed a love letter to life!Glowing in the Dark was originally published and reviewed under the title "Skybluepink." There have been a few factual corrections, otherwise the volumes are all but identical.
