Shape of the periodic table has been completely redesigned by Gooch based on carbon. The new pyramidal shape of the table is based on atoms which have the property of either giving up or taking on their outer shell electrons - like carbon does. Elements to the left of these atoms are considered "keys" - elements which like to give up their outer shell electrons, and elements to the right of these atoms are considered "keyholes" - elements which like to take on their outer shell electrons.
