Excerpts

Christi told the Knights to wait at the car. With flowers in hand, nighttime set in and she walked past the many grave stones that already lined the dark hallowed grounds and eventually made her way to the grave of Amy Hemmington. Christi knelt down and put the flowers on the ground. She read the inscription on the stone: "Here lies Amy Hemmington. Beloved wife and mother. Golden Witch and savior of the world. You will never be forgotten." "It's my birthday today, Mother..." Christi wiped away a tear. "I'm not having a party or anything. I haven't celebrated much since..." She didn't finish that particular sentence. "Father has been busy, as usual. I don't get to see him much... I'm doing okay in school, there's just been a lot of reporters. You'd think after a while they'd have finally gone away, but they're still bothering me. The students don't really talk to me anymore, they think I'm some sort of revenge seeking witch. I've tried my best to stay strong but..." Christi shook her head and wept. "I wish you were here..." She stared at the gravestone, "Though I know you're still with me, Mother, I feel so alone." Dropping to her knees, Christi cried. A hand rested on her shoulder. "Quiet child, do not cry." Tears in her eyes, Christi sniffled and looked up at the tall man wearing a top hat with pointed elf ears. "Who are you?" "You know your father put up quite a fight, but even a wild beast can be tamed." Frozen in fear Christi asked, "What did you do to him?" "Don't worry, he's alive... for now." Christi stood up and, now angered, pulled out her wand. The elfin wizard teleported behind her and this time placed both hands on her, one on either shoulder. "As long as you do exactly what I say." Christi shrugged him off and stuck out her wand, nearly touching the weapon's tip to his face. "Don't touch me!" The yelling alerted the two Knight guards and they ran up with switchswords active. "Vuru, back away from her!" Christi looked again at the elfin magician. She had heard of the man called Vuru, or rather, Saint Vuru... the infamous Black Wizard. A person her mother told her not to trust and, more importantly, not to underestimate. A powerful and deadly enemy of Amy Hemmington. With a grin on his face the elf smiled. "Of course." Staring at the Knights, the elf grinned even wider, Now the two Knights were screaming for the hands they used to hold their swords were revolting. Fingers on their sword wielding hands were curling back into their wrists. Consequently, the switchswords each one held dropped out of their hands and each Knight dropped to their knees. Christi stumbled back in fear whispering, "No." The whipping of chopper blades sounded in the air as a pair of helicopters levitated overhead in the background. Ropes dropped from the helicopters and League troops began to repel down. Without the slightest acknowledgement given to the troops, Vuru slowly reached at his side and pulled out his black wand. The Black Wizard walked over to the first of the two Knights still screaming on their knees. With a boot to the chest, Vuru forced the first Knights to his back. Wand pointed at the Knight's head, he calmly said, "Alakazam." A green spark shot out from the wand and hit the Knight and soon after, the Knight burst into ash, echoed only by a death cry. The second Knight screamed in pain, but managed to stand with the switchsword in his opposite hand. He swung it out at the magician and Vuru merely side-stepped the attack and then saw an opening. Rearing back his left hand, Vuru extended his own fingers and pried them into the Knight's eyes, then pulled them back out, effectively executing an eye gouge. Screaming louder than before, the Knight wailed and stumbled around blindly. Slivers of retina and nerves hung out of the Knight's eye sockets. Aqueous Humor dribbled from the shards of what had once been his blue eyes. The Saint crouched down and picked up a fallen switchsword. Activating the blade, Vuru put the blind Knights out of his misery with a slice from ear to ear across his face. The Knight stopped stumbling and stood still; the top of his head slid off the rest of the body. Knees buckled to the ground and the dead Knight landed face first, oozing out blood in the grass. Vuru stared at Christi with switchsword in hand. "Exquisite weapon, isn't it?" Still backing up, her purple eyes lingered on the dead Knights. With a hand to her mouth, she threw up and began to hyperventilate. Vuru shook his head and walked even closer. "No need to fear, come girl." Christi's eyes finally went where they needed to and she focused on Vuru. "NO!" Lifting up her wand, she yelled, "Bolt!" A yellow streak ignited from her wand, cracked loudly and transformed into a bolt of lightning. The magical spell ignited toward Vuru and the elf batted it away with the switchsword in his hand. "So childish..." he murmured. Christi turned around and ran with all speed deeper into the graveyard. Vuru turned the opposite direction and directed the League troops running forward, "Get her." One by one, they passed him up and ran after Christi. Vuru shook his head and hateful eyes now lingered on the gravestone of Amy Hemmington. He kicked over the flowers Christi sat down and sneered in disgust.
